The Veg Sleeve: solving a real problem quietly
Spills, smells, and why we didn't put our riders in a different colour.
“We realised that segregating riders on the street solves nothing for food safety and creates avoidable social division. The real solution belonged inside the bag.”
For millions of vegetarian households across India, food purity is a deeply held conviction. Yet in commercial food delivery, concerns about cross-contamination—gravy spills inside delivery bags, lingering meat aromas, or shared delivery pouches—are genuine and frequent.
Earlier industry attempts to solve this resulted in high-profile blunders: painting delivery riders in bright green uniforms, effectively dividing workers on public roads and triggering housing society entry discrimination.
At FullPlate, we realised the problem wasn't the rider; it was the physics of thermal delivery bags. Our solution is the Veg Sleeve: an airtight, thermally insulated inner chamber built into every standard FullPlate delivery backpack.
When an order is purely vegetarian, the kitchen's chit prints a Veg Sleeve identifier. The rider slides the sealed meal into the inner sleeve and zips it shut. No aromas penetrate, no external containers touch it, and every rider wears the exact same uniform with equal dignity.
